Questions people ask
How much compensation do I get for a delayed flight in the UK?+
Under UK261 it depends on distance: £220 for flights up to 1,500 km, £350 for 1,500–3,500 km, and £520 for over 3,500 km, per passenger, if you arrive 3 hours or more late and the cause was in the airline's control.
Which flights are covered by UK261?+
Every flight departing from a UK airport (any airline), and flights arriving in the UK from abroad on a UK or EU airline. Flights departing from the EU are covered by EU261 instead.
Does bad weather or a strike count?+
Bad weather, air traffic control restrictions and airport or air traffic control strikes are 'extraordinary circumstances', so no compensation is due. Technical faults and strikes by the airline's own staff are not extraordinary, so you can still claim.
How far back can I claim?+
Up to 6 years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and 5 years in Scotland, through the UK courts.
Do I need a claims company?+
No. Claims companies usually keep 25–35% plus VAT. You can claim directly from the airline for free, then use the airline's ADR scheme or the CAA if they refuse.
